LAN party
The LAN party is still going after 10 hours. It's been fun, we've had 9 different players. I'll post some pictures later.
Countdown to w00t!
The countdown has begun. The chips are bought, the geeks are invited, the networking supplies are ready to go. Now all that's left to do is watch the countdown at the top of this page. I just hope I'm on Grant's team when we play Counterstrike so he doesn't frag me.
BTivo
How to never miss and episode with bittorrent and rss - First, this site is down at the moment, but you can read the article from Google's cache here. Second, this actually works. Brendan can't watch the Daily Show in China or use BitTorrent, so I've got a set up on my computer that gets the show every day so he can download it from me. This could be very useful, especially if you don't have TiVo.
LAN!
The LAN party is on. This Saturday from noon until bedtime we'll hook our computers together and play Counterstrike, Age of Empires 2, StarCraft, and whatever else we feel like. I'm expecting over 10 people. I only wish Brendan, Gringo and Smiles could be there, too. There are some things that might end up in short supply, so if you have them, bring them along:
- Ethernet patch cables
- Extension cords
- Power strips
- Mountain Dew
The Story Enmakeulator v. 0.1
I'm finally making a serious effort at learning a programming language. I thought PHP would be the natural choice, since I've been using a CMS that is written in PHP. I found a good tutorial and went through the 11 lessons. I had gotten that far before, but I never had an idea for anything to make. Unless you have something to practice on, you'll never learn the language (or at least I haven't). So I made up an objective for myself and spent several hours tonight making it into a PHP program.
So, it is my pleasure to present to you, The Story Enmakeulator (version 0.1). The idea is, you read the story, then add on your own paragraph. I know there are some problems with it, and if you have answers, please let me know. If you want to look at the source code, you can grab it here.
G4TechTV goes from bad to worse
I guess the Comcast execs weren't happy with their first try at screwing up TechTV. Earlier this year they merged their G4 network with the newly aquired TechTV. Leo LaPorte and Patrick Norton, the network's two top talents didn't make it into the new network. The G4 content was and is pure crap and the only surviving good show, the Screen Savers was tampered with to the point that I can barely watch it. Well, if they weren't satisfied with how badly they had screwed up this once perfect network, they finished the job today. The execs called Alex, Dan, Yoshi and Martin into the office and told them to get out of the building by 3 pm. TSS will be in reruns for a bit while they revamp the show again. It's only going to get worse. Look at their website. Look at it! Techtv.com used to be one of the best resources on the web. Now it's a stinking, bloated, ugly peice of crap. This is really disappointing to me. I've learned a lot from that show. I may not have got an IT job if it weren't for it. And now it's going down the tubes.
Update: Click here for a list of G4TechTV execs' emails. If you agree with my assessment, let them hear it.

Matt's Blog
matt.brendoman.com - This is the announcement I was talking about. This should be a good read, so be sure and check in on it once in a while. I was going to introduce him, but his first post does a pretty good job of telling you what he's interested in and what to expect from the new weblog. Welcome, Matt!
Firefox + Bloglines
Bloglines | Firefox Center Firefox and Bloglines may be my two favorite internet applications. And now they're playing together more nicely than ever. This site is where I found the Livelines extension. I'm not sure if I like it better than the Mozilla Bloglines Toolkit, though. If you don't know what the heck I'm talking about then get Firefox, get a Bloglines account (both are free) and find out.
Blog is fixed
If you haven't been able to post comments for the last several hours, then you'll be glad to know that the problem is fixed. So comment away.
Note: An exciting announcement about a new blog is coming soon.
LAN Party: November 20
If there is enough interest, there will be a LAN party at my house on November 20, 2004. I think we could have as many as 10 people. Mark your calendar, dust off your computer, upgrade your video card if you must. If you don't have a computer, come anyway, we should have extras. We'll probably play some Counterstrike, StarCraft, and whatever else folks bring. W00t!
