Must. Have. Wireless.
I haven't made any major tech purchases recently. I've been slowly gathering old computer stuff for my little Linux playground, but now I have an idea for my next purchase: A Secure Digital wi-fi adapter card for my Pocket PC. It would put the internet in my hand at home and work. I can also get it with 256 MB of memory. I started thinking about this when I read that there is a Pocket PC version of Skype. I could use my PDA as a phone. How cool is that? Doug was telling me that he uses his wireless adapter to stream music to his PDA. I know I don't have the money for this now, but it's fun to dream.

Woah! I’ve never seen Skype before. I hope it doesn’t get so popular that it becomes a pay service, but that is COOL!(Now if I only had wireless at home…)

I think I’m going to try using Skype when I get to China.
Sometimes I run around the office with my clie and jabber to people. Only problem I have is it doesn’t seem to support roaming, it won’t switch channels when I cross into the side of the building covered by the secondary access point.
Drains the battery like mad too. But oh so geeky.
Doug: Skype does have a paid element called SkypeOut. It let’s you actually call out to POTS, regular telephones. The price isn’t too bad compared to actual long distance charges.
Yeah, found that out. And it apparently does not support Pocket PC 2002. And the Audiovox Maestro apparently cannot be upgraded to PPC 2003.
Sigh.

Bummer. My clie couldn’t be upgraded to the newest version of the Palm OS either. And one of the reasons I picked that model was that it had some free ROM for upgrading.
