Moore politics, less certainty

07/28/04 | by [mail] | Categories: miscellaneous

I finally watched Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004). I'm still not sure how I feel about it. The movie really did have an effect on me. I know that half of it is the manipulation that comes with the craft of documentary filmmaking. I also know that Moore stretched some facts and led viewers to make connections that aren't really there. But still, Bush did look pretty bad in parts. I'm talking mainly about all of the business connections. But Kerry and company are not exactly blue-collar America either. It's also pretty clear now that WMD wasn't a good reason for going to war. Tonight even Bill O'Reilly admitted to that. But then again, Kerry supported the war originally, too. So, I don't know what to think or who to vote for.

If you don’t know what to think about the candidates, don’t let Mike’s propaganda sway your vote. The reason Bush looks bad in the film is because M.M. WANTS him to look bad. This is not a balanced evaluation of the circumstances surrounding our nation’s current condition, it is a malicious slandering of GWB.

Of course Moore’s film isn’t balanced. I don’t think he makes any illusions about that. And Moore certainly has an agenda of removing Bush from office–what liberal doesn’t? These facts don’t necessarily mean that all his accusations against Bush are untrue, though. The facts are indisputable; the interpretation of those facts can be debated. Moore’s film contains both facts and interpretation.

I have not seen the movie, but have read some (albeit not much) of the article “Fifty-nine Deceits in Farenheit 9-11.” The author posts links to Michael Moore’s response to some of the points. Seems interesting, will make it through it sometime.

I read most of that last night right after I finished the movie.

In addition to the 59 deceits, I would also recommend reading Moore’s defense and sources at his site. I think the deceits are also a little unbalanced.

If you want an unbalanced and unfair look at BOTH candidates, try going to www.jibjab.com Political satire of the highest level, and perhaps, the funniest thing I’ve seen in a while…

“Malicious slandering…”

Uhm, ok.

Either way, either way we come out politically it’s good that MM made this film… I think it encourages all to take a deeper closer look at the way things really are.

Here’s a subject… What do you think about the sometimes assumed notion that if you are a christian you must be republican?

I think it’s silly. And dangerous.

I agree.

God’s not a Republican. I’m not even sure He’s American.
