Sick, still
I was wrong about Emma. She didn't get better today. Today she experienced all the symptoms that she's had since Saturday. At least she slept for most of the day. Poor baby.
Sick baby
Emma has been sick since Saturday morning. Yesterday was the throwing up day and today was the sleepy, feeverish, limp day. I'm hoping that tomorrow will be the feeling better day. It's been pretty sad.
Mr. Ferguson
I'm posting this from Adrian R-III school where I'm substitute teaching for a fourth grade class. The kids are at recess. They had a teacher go home in the middle of the day and since I'm close they gave me a call. So far it's going well. I taught Social Studies and Math.
Our favorite channels are gone!
If it's possible, this is even worse than when our extra-basic cable dropped Tech-TV. Dish Network, as part of a dispute with Viacom, has dropped four of our favorite cable channels: VH1, Comedy Central, and 2 Nickelodeons. We probably watch one of those four channels about 80% of the time that our TV is on. Here is a news story about the dispute, and you can also read official statements from Dish Network and Viacom. In some markets, CBS has been dropped, too, but not in Kansas City. This is going to make a lot of people mad, especially basketball fans, since CBS carries March Madness. For my part, if this isn't resolved soon, we'll probably switch to DirectTV. I've been thinking of switching to Direct TV, since you can get the cable box integrated with a Tivo. We could record two channels and watch a third all at the same time. So far dish network isn't letting people out of their contracts yet, but if this goes on long enough I think they'll have to.
Work day at our house
Today my parents came over and helped us make some improvements to our house. Being the geek that I am, I documented it for posterity. Click below to see the pictures.
Weather
The National Weather Service has my county (Bates) under a flood warning and tornado watch.
My daughter, my geek
As Sara teaches our 2-year-old Emma concepts like saying please and thank you, reading and not biting, I'm introducing Emma to my world. This weekend we had this exchange:
Danny: Do you like Windows?
Emma: No.
D: Do you like Linux?
E: Yes!
And she really does. There's a game on my Linux computer that she loves to play. We have a Fisher-Price game that she plays, but every time I try to get her to use the mouse she just spins the scroll wheel. So yesterday when I saw an Elmo Kidzmouse at Walmart I stopped to look at it. It didn't have a scroll wheel and it was marked down to $10. (On the website they're asking $27 for it.) I didn't know if it would be any good, but I bought it anyway. When Sara and I opened it at home we were pleased to see that it was USB and optical(!) Ok, Sara probably didn't care about that, but I was excited.
This morning Emma woke me up and we played on the computer. Now instead of messing with the scroll wheel, she just keeps pushing the right mouse button, which can really mess up the flash games that we play. But I'm downloading a driver from the site that makes the right mouse button behave like the left.
