God is not a Republican

God is not a Republican (or a Democrat) - I haven't read the whole petition, but I like the sound of what I've heard so far. They quote Pat Robertson as saying "I think George Bush is going to win in a walk. I really believe I'm hearing from the Lord it's going to be like a blowout election in 2004. The Lord has just blessed him.... It doesn't make any difference what he does, good or bad." (AP/Fox News, January 2, 2004). That really bothers me. I haven't signed this, but I'm thinking about it. Any thoughts?

interesting…interesting to think about the Religious Right trying to forfeit our right to choose our own candidate. the petition is well-drafted and right on. i struggle with the fact that personally, one candidate stand behind issues i find important; and the other candidate stands behing the other issues i find important. reconciling the two is proving difficult.

You beat me to the punch, Danny. I was going to blog about this just as soon as I brought some headphones to the library to hear the quotes in the video. I think everybody can guess my feelings about Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell. It will be interesting if they can raise money to put their ad in the New York Times, like they want.

Yeah, as I recall God was the one that told ol’ Pat to run for president a few years back. I think he got just a few more votes in the primary than I did.

I kinda always thought that Jesus wasn’t worried about Government, He was concerned about people and thier salvation.

Always thought that He was most concerned with the state of a person’s soul. Let Ceasar have what is his, you be fishers of men.

I will not beg what Almighty God thinks is the most moral politcal party. Instead I will use reason and not resort to emotionally laden arguments (I am not accusing anyone commenting hereof this by the way).

Go by what works and what will work the best. Overall.
