Personman.com

I posted a few days ago about picking a new domain name, and I finally settled on one: personman.com.

I was going to try and fix it up a little before I shared it with the world, but eh.

TechTV, you are dead to me

Maybe you're getting tired of me talking about the way that G4 has messed up the best network and the best show on tv, but I had to post this link: Check out this mp3. Leo Laporte, former host of the Screen Savers and TechTV / ZDTV veteran actually refers to the G4 programming as "garbage." He also predicts that they won't be on the air much longer. I wish it would go off the air so the people responsible for killing TechTV could lose their money. But the network is already dead to me.

Go

I've been learning a new game recently. And by new I mean that the game is 3000 years old. Go is a two player board game originating in China. The rules are pretty simple, but the strategy can get very intense. GoBase.org is a good site for more information, including a good introduction to the rules. This other site has some good interactive lessons (requres Java). I've been playing the game on my Pocket PC and routinely getting my butt kicked, so I'm going through the lessons to see if I can get any better.

Go is known as Weiqi in China, or .

Help me pick a domain name

I think I'm going to register a domain name with no-ip.com. I don't have to have a static IP address and it's only $30 a year. But I have to choose a name:

Dave Barry heals the nation

Herald.com | 12/12/2004 | Can't we all just get along?

The nation suffered a wound during the recent presidential election as a result of the rift between the red states -- defined as 'states where `foreign cuisine' pretty much means Pizza Hut'' -- and the blue states, defined as ``states that believe they are smarter than the red states, despite the fact that it takes the average blue-state resident 15 minutes to order a single cup of coffee.

wiki wiki

Now I have some actual content on my wiki. I put up a page that describes all of the websites I've made or helped with: Links - PrsnmnWiki. I also wrote a brief introduction to creating a wiki page in the help section. I'd love to see some people make pages and link to them from the wiki's main page. Have fun.

My new webserver, Media Wiki

I'm getting some things added to my new webserver, including a gallery and an installation of Media Wiki. If anyone wants to use this stuff, feel free. I don't have a purpose in mind for the wiki other than testing right now. If you have a bit of web software you want to try, or if you want a Movable Type blog that you can use to test things on, let me know and I can set something up for you. I can also create user account for my friends so they can store things and have their own web space like this: prsnmn.hopto.org/~dan. Since you can telnet in and have a Linux command line interface, it could be a good way to learn a bit about Linux. Let me know if you're interested.

So I'm having fun with Linux and I'm also having a great time at my job. One of our point-to-point T1 connections to a branch bank went down this week. Today I was on the phone with Cisco and I made a loopback cable by cutting an ethernet cable in half, stripping some wires and twisting them together. We were testing the router using hyperterminal to send commands from my laptop. I felt like I was in way over my head, but I'm learning a lot.

Test from Blogtk

If you're reading this, then I got BloGTK to work on my Linux computer. It's like w.bloggar, but more Linuxy. Earlier tonight I tried installing w.bloggar and Starcraft on my Ubuntu box using WINE, but I failed.

TiVo = Steroids

This device makes TiVo look like a dime-store trinket. But it's $2000 pricetag makes me want to apologize to my TiVo for saying that. 1200+ GB of storage, ethernet, DVD burner, drool.
